two kinds of bots

One network, two jobs

Ask for the one your channel needs, or one of each. Every bot only answers to its owner on its own channel.

Protect bots

Your channel's guardian. It reacts to a takeover without waiting for its queue, gives op back to your people and leaves the channel as it was 90 seconds later.

  • Takeovers, floods, spam, clones, drones and bad words
  • Full management: users, levels, topic, Q bans
  • A channel backup every hour, restored with one command

Trivia

Fast questions in your channel, in English or in your people's language. Weekly rankings, duels, streaks, 12 achievements and a hall of fame.

  • Normal, KAOS, scrambled words and bonus x2
  • Play from the website with your Q account
  • Full statistics of every player and channel

#how-it-works

From request to bot in your channel

The hub, EpicBots, does it all by itself. The staff only steps in on borderline cases.

  1. You ask

You type !request pro #yourchannel in #EpicBots, authed with Q.

  2. The hub checks you

A WHOIS gives it your Q account. It checks the blacklist, the limits per account and that a bot is free.

  3. It visits your channel

It joins, checks that you have @, that Q is there and how many users there are (no clones, no bots), and leaves.

  4. It sends the bot

The bot with the most room joins and makes you its owner on your channel only.

  5. You give it access in Q

The bot tells you the exact command: +amo for a Protect bot, +ao for a trivia bot.

#history

From the IRC bot scene to a network of our own

EpicBots comes from many years on IRC: from knowing what makes a bot worth having and what makes a channel trust it.

  1. before

    #pwnd.bots and #bouncers

sauk learns the trade in IRC's bot and bouncer scene, in channels like #pwnd.bots and #bouncers: that is where it becomes clear what a good bot must be. Always up, instant to react and no trouble.

  2. a break

A few years away from IRC

A time of inactivity, far from the channels and the bots.

  3. Jan 2022

    EpicBots is born

Back on IRC, sauk founds EpicBots on QuakeNet: free service bots for any channel that needs one, requested with a single command.

  4. today

    A complete network

A hub that handles requests by itself, Protect bots that stop takeovers without waiting, trivia bots with rankings and live games, and this website.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost?

Nothing. EpicBots is free for any QuakeNet channel that meets the requirements.

What is the difference between a Protect bot and a trivia bot?

A Protect bot guards your channel and brings every channel management tool. A trivia bot runs the game, with its rankings, achievements and statistics, and only has the commands it needs for that. You can ask for one of each.

How do I get a bot?

Auth with Q, join #EpicBots and type !request pro #yourchannel (or trivia). The hub checks your channel and, if it qualifies, the bot arrives within a minute. The details are in Get a bot.

Does the bot give my user access to other channels?

No. You are the bot's owner on your channel only. Your commands work nowhere else and you have no partyline access.

How do I play trivia from the website?

In Trivia · Play press "Log in with Q", send the code we give you with /msg EpicBots weblogin CODE while authed with Q, and that's it: your answers count in the same ranking as on IRC.

What if a bot goes down?

It starts again by itself within a few minutes and logs in to Q again. Your channel, your users and your settings stay saved.

Where do I get help?

In #EpicBots: the staff and other users answer there. You can join from the webchat.

What data do you keep?

What we need to protect you and for the game: the users with access, their hosts and accounts, the bans, a copy of the channel settings and the trivia scores. We don't keep conversations.

Your channel, protected in a minute

Type !request pro #yourchannel in #EpicBots, authed with Q. No forms, no waiting.
